Compassionate Inquiry

There are times when no matter how many treatments you've tried or how much you've adjusted your lifestyle and eating habits, your health just seems to hit a roadblock because your mindset and beliefs are in the way. It's like things aren't moving forward. That's why I decided to train in Compassionate Inquiry.

Compassionate Inquiry (CI) is a therapeutic method developed by Dr. Gabor Mate, a globally recognized expert in addiction and trauma.

CI employs straightforward questions to help uncover the thoughts, beliefs, and emotions underlying our current situation. By revealing and understanding the driving forces behind our behaviours (and suffering), we can liberate ourselves from them.

A typical CI session lasts around 45 to 60 minutes and can be conducted online or in person. It begins with you setting an intention, such as exploring a feeling, emotion, or behaviour pattern.

In contrast to some traditional psychotherapy approaches, CI unfolds in a more conversational style, and it's not uncommon for me as the therapist to gently interrupt to facilitate the process.

A core principle of CI is unwavering belief in your ability, as the client, to heal yourself. Consequently, my role is that of a witness and facilitator, rather than a directive authority. I may offer suggestions but never dictate what you should do.

Towards the end of the session, we revisit your initial intention to uncover any new insights that may have emerged.

You, as the client, retain full control over the depth and direction of the session. At any point, you can take a break or end it as you see fit.

CI sessions can stand alone or complement treatments like acupuncture, bodywork, or one-on-one yoga/movement therapy.

I offer various payment options to make CI accessible. When deciding your investment, I encourage you to choose what feels right. Here's how:

  • Pay attention to how your body reacts when you contemplate the lowest possible contribution versus an outrageously expensive one. Take your time.

  • Neither too low nor too high should feel comfortable. Somewhere in between, you'll find the right amount. You can also cross-check your decision with your rational mind.

Abundant contributions are deeply appreciated and help sustain CI sessions while allowing for diverse payment options.

If you have any questions about CI and whether it can benefit you, please don't hesitate to contact me.
